District residents volunteer to represent our community
Before the June 25 Board of Commissioners meeting,
Commissioner Lisa Cupid hosted a reception to thank those she appointed
to various volunteer boards and committees. This diverse group of
residents is commended for volunteering their time, knowledge and
talents to help improve District Four and Cobb County as a whole.
Comprehensive evaluation of Austell Road underway
Cobb County staff is in the process of evaluating and
forming recommendations for a comprehensive evaluation of the entire
Austell Road corridor from South Cobb Drive to the city limits of
Austell. This is being done to meet current and anticipated future
market demand and enable private investments that will assist
redevelopment along the corridor.
Some dates for the public to become involved in this process include:
- Planning Commission Public Hearing
9 a.m., Monday, July 8

- Board of Commissioners Public Hearing
7 p.m., Tuesday, Tuesday, July 23

Letters are being sent out to all impacted property
owners to inform them about these upcoming opportunities to learn more

Free summer movie series at Mable House will feature family favorites
The "MOOVIES at the Mable" summer series begins Thursday, July 11,
with a screening of Warner Bros. "Happy Feet." This movie gives a
birds' eye view of the world of Emperor Penguins, who find their soul
mates through song. A penguin is born who cannot sing, but he can tap
dance. Gates will open at 7:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at dusk, around 8:30 p.m.
The free movie series will continue Saturday, July 20, with Disney Pixar's "Brave," Thursday, July 25, with Disney Pixar's "Wall-E" and Thursday, Aug. 1, with "Hotel Transylvania." Mable House is located at 5239 Floyd Road, Mableton. For more information, visit mablehouse.org or call 770-819-7765.
Interested in volunteering?
Commissioner Lisa Cupid is looking for volunteers to
assist within the office and on special projects around the district. If
you are interested in volunteering, please download and fill out the
volunteer packet by visiting cobbcounty.org/cupid.
Please let us know when you have submitted a completed packet so we can
arrange a time for you to come in and complete the process with the
Human Resources Department.

No work is planned for on Independence Day Thursday, July 4.
Floyd Road Construction
Clay Road to Hicks Road – Monday, July 1, through Friday, July 5
Expect periodic lane closures 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
with one lane remaining while the contractor continues installing
curb and gutter, storm drainage and grading. Utility companies will be
relocating services. EXPECT DELAYS.
Pedestrian Access
Temporary sidewalks are in place are in place to assist
pedestrians while old sidewalks are removed and new sidewalks are
constructed along the east side of Floyd Road. Additional traffic
barrels and directional signage are in place to assist pedestrians
needing access to existing CCT bus stops on the west side of Floyd. All
existing CCT bus stops will be maintained during
construction. Pedestrian paths may be temporarily relocated during
short-duration closures as construction continues. When needed,
contractors may escort pedestrians through the work zone.
Hopkins Road Bridge Replacement
Hopkins Road at Wildhorse Creek Bridge will be closed through July 29. A signed detour route will be provided during construction.
Hopkins Road over Wildhorse Creek – Saturday, July 1, through Friday, July 5
Contractor will form and pour concrete for the new bridge and relocate utilities.
Church Street (Mableton Elementary) Sidewalk Construction
Church Street at Mableton Elementary – Monday, July 1, through Friday, July 5 Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
with one lane remaining open while the contractor continues clearing,
installing storm drainage, placing concrete curb and sidewalk and water
relocation.
Brookwood Drive Sidewalk Construction
Silver Comet Trail to Anderson Mill Road – Monday, July 1, through Friday, July 5
The contractor will continue installing storm drainage and utility relocation.
Al Bishop Drive Trail Construction
Callaway Road to County Services Parkway. - Monday, July 1, through Friday, July 5
The contractor will continue installing storm drainage and begin grading for curb.
Powder Springs Bridge Replacement over Silver Comet Trail
City of Powder Springs
Powder Springs Road will be closed from Richard D. Sailors Parkway to Austell Powder Springs Road through Aug. 6.
Road Resurfacing
Asphalt paving operations, which include lane closures
though one lane will remain open at all times, are **scheduled Monday,
July 1 through Friday, July 5) on the following roads: EXPECT DELAYS
- Riverside Parkway from Six Flags Drive to White Road.
- Meadows Road from Hiram Lithia Springs Rd to Oglesby Road
- Night work – Factory Shoals Road from Six Flags Drive to Mableton Parkway
- Night work – Florence Road from Glendora Drive to Macland Road
** The above scheduled work is subject to change due to weather or construction progress.
