Barrett Parkway Construction: EXPECT DELAYS

The contractor is planning to work Saturday, July 20, in preparation of asphalt paving.

The contractor is not planning to work Sunday, July 21.

NIGHT WORK: Asphalt paving may be performed at night, depending on weather.

Northbound Barrett Parkway (Burnt Hickory Road to US 41) – Monday, July 22, through Friday, July 26
Expect periodic lane closures northbound 9 a.m.-7 p.m. between Burnt Hickory Road and Cobb Parkway (US 41) with one lane remaining open as the contractor performs grading operations, asphalt paving, guardrail and signal work. Utility relocation should not affect your service. 

Southbound Barrett Parkway (Cobb Place to Burnt Hickory Road) – Monday, July 22, through Friday, July 26
Periodic lane closures southbound 7 a.m.-4 p.m. between Cobb Place and Burnt Hickory Road, with one lane open while the contractor continues grading operations, asphalt paving, guardrail, median and signal work. Utility relocation should not affect your service. 

Barrett Parkway at Home Center Drive Construction

The contractor is not planning to work this weekend, July 20-21.

Barrett Parkway at Home Center Drive Intersection – Monday, July 22, through Friday, July 26
Expect intermittent lane closure 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at this intersection with at least one lane remaining open as the contractor begins clearing operations, erosion control and grading. Utility relocations should not affect your service. 

Jiles Road Construction

The contractor is planning to work Saturday, July 20, in preparation of asphalt paving.

The contractor is not planning to work Sunday, July 21.

Cobb Parkway to CSX Railroad Bridge– Monday, July 22, through Friday, July 26 Expect intermittent lane closures 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. with one lane remaining open, while the contractor performs punch list work including striping and concrete work from Paulding Street to Cobb Parkway (US 41).

John Ward Road Sidewalk Construction
The contractor is not planning to work this weekend, July 20-21.

Brookmont Trace to Arbor Forest Drive – Monday, July 22, through Friday, July 26 Expect intermittent lane closures 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. The contractor will continue grading and begin placing concrete curb and sidewalk. Utility relocations will continue.

Dallas Highway (SR120) Resurfacing – GDOT
Georgia Department of Transportation is resurfacing SR120 from the Paulding County Line to John Ward Road. Most work will take place at night. The project is scheduled to be completed in December.

Road Resurfacing
Asphalt paving operations - which include lane closures though one lane will remain open at all times - are **scheduled next week (Saturday, July 20, and Monday, July 22, through Friday, July 26) on the following roads: EXPECT DELAYS

·         Old Stilesboro Road from Acworth Due West Road to Mars Hill Road
·         Night Work – Corner Road from Macland Road to Lost Mountain Road 

 ** The above scheduled work is subject to change due to weather or construction progress.


Free 'Kritters and Kids' event will help find loving homes for pets

Cobb Animal Control will host its second “Kritters and Kids” Funfest 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, July 20. The free indoor event is part of the department’s continuing efforts to help find homes for the homeless animals of Cobb County. Last year, the event featured a many organizations speaking on safety, health and responsible pet ownership.

During this year’s expanded event, parents and children can meet ferret and reptile rescues, discover the importance of vet visits and learn how a dog can become a therapy animal. Attendees can also meet a trainer who will demonstrate agility exercises, find out why cats make great pets for some families and understand how some dogs become more than just pets to diabetic patients.

Kennesaw Library will be closed for minor repairs

Kennesaw Library will be temporarily closed Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9-10, while crews repair the HVAC system. The library will reopen for regular hours Monday, Aug. 12. Patrons are encouraged to visit Kemp Memorial Library or West Cobb Regional Library during that timeframe.

Kemp Memorial Library is located at 4029 Due West Road, Marietta, and will be open 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday and 1-6 p.m., Saturday. West Cobb Regional Library is located at 1750 Dennis Kemp Lane in Kennesaw and will be open 11 a.m.- 6 p.m., both Friday and Saturday. For more information, call Kennesaw Library at 770-528-2529.


Enjoy end of summer reading celebration with family

The whole family is invited to enjoy the End of Summer Reading Celebration 5-7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Central Library.

More than 1,000 people attended this fun event last year and this year's celebration is pirate-themed. There will be games, crafts, live music, dancing, facepainting and story telling. The event will be decked out with a huge pirate ship, palm trees, seashells, blue crabs, caves and the atmosphere of the high seas and tropical beaches. It is free and open to the public.
