Dallas City Hall launches new Civic Media Feed

Dallas City Hall launches new Civic Media Feed

The City’s communication efforts integrate social media
channels and the Dallas City News Network

DALLAS – The City of Dallas has introduced a new website to better connect with citizens, business owners and stakeholders. The new site, DallasCityNewsroom.com, is the first phase in the City’s plan to integrate its various communication platforms while updating the look and functionality of its online presence.

DallasCityNewsroom.com features city news, information and events using social media and multi-media elements. Short video segments will appear on the site and on social media channels imparting information about City initiatives, events and services. These segments, called The FEED, will appear weekly.

The newsroom site and associated social media channels function as a civic media feed showcasing City news and initiatives,” said Interim City Manager A.C. Gonzalez. “We want to engage, enlighten and empower citizens to connect with city government in real time and in time of crisis.

DallasCityNewsroom.com features the municipal television channel, Dallas City News Network (DCNN). DCNN now appears prominently, making it easier to locate cablecasting and web streaming of City Council meetings live or on demand. New government programming technology also provides streaming of DCNN on mobile devices, laptop and desktop computers and through multiple internet browsers.

“This new technology makes council meeting videos available within a few hours of completion and features an indexed agenda, allowing users to select a particular agenda item and jump to the relevant section of video,” said Chief Information Officer Bill Finch.

“As we expand our engagement with residents, we want to be sure we’re communicating with everyone, including those who depend on social media to stay informed,” said Public Information Office Director Frank Librio. “We believe these online platforms will allow us to better communicate and serve our citizens quickly during natural disasters and other crisis situations.”

The City is also rebuilding and redesigning the City’s home page, DallasCityHall.com, scheduled to launch in March 2014. Residents can continue to access important City services information on the home page. The new DallasCityHall.com site will feature City services more prominently.

Both websites are smartphone and tablet compatible and allow customers to toggle between the two and enjoy all the interactive and social media elements.
