Teens and parents have opportunity to learn about online hazards

The Cobb Police Department will host another free Internet safety seminar for teens, teachers and parents 7-9 p.m., Monday, Aug. 26. The event will take place at the Cobb Safety Village, 1220 Al Bishop Drive, Marietta.

Some content may not be suitable for younger children. Topics will include cyber bullying, social media and the sexual exploitation of youths. There will also be a question and answer session.

People are encouraged to attend and become educated about these important issues. Registration is required. Contact safetyeducation@cobbcounty.org or 770-852-3270 for more information or to register.


Public comments on Cobb CDBG's supplemental funding allocations

Cobb Community Development Block Grant Program staff is receiving comments on the final budget for Cobb's CDBG Supplemental Funding final allocations through 5 p.m., Monday, Sept. 2. Funding received through these programs is allocated to various activities that serve the needs of low and moderate income residents in Cobb. Chance to have documents shredded securely and help the needy

Residents have the opportunity to have their household documents securely shredded and donate gently-worn shoes to help people in need. Keep Cobb Beautiful will host Document Shredding Day and Shoe Collection 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Sept. 14.

This event is in partnership with Keep Marietta Beautiful, Keep Powder Springs Beautiful and Keep Smyrna Beautiful. Only paper products will be accepted. Plastics, CDs, floppy discs, electronics, cardboard and large binders with metal rings or clips will not be accepted. People are also asked to bind or tape shoes in pairs.

Get tickets now for Smooth Music Festival at Mableton Amphitheatre

The Sixth Annual Atlanta Smooth Music Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14, at Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre. The festival will feature international, national and local smooth jazz recording artists.

Jazz fans will enjoy performances by guitarist Nick Colionne, keyboardist Alex Bugnon, saxophonists Eric Darius and Jeff Sparks, flutist Kim Scott and bassist Julian Vaughn. Attend 2013 Neighborhood Summit

The Neighborhood Fund, an initiative of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, will host the fifth annual Neighborhood Summit 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21. The event will be held at Lodermilk Center for the Regional Community, 40 Courtland St., Atlanta. This year's theme is "Celebrating One Region: Sharing Ideas, Places and Spaces."

Activities will include workshops, curbside consulting and exhibitors that focus on the region's connectivity while celebrating the rich diversity. All are invited to attend, especially neighborhood and community leaders, activists, associations and community members. Floyd Road Construction

Clay Road to Hicks Road – Monday, Aug. 26, through Friday, Aug. 30
Expect periodic lane closures 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. with one lane remaining while the contractor continues installing curb and gutter, storm drainage and grading. Utility companies will be relocating services. EXPECT DELAYS.

Pedestrian Access
Temporary sidewalks are in place to assist pedestrians while old sidewalks are removed and new sidewalks are constructed along the east side of Floyd Road. Additional traffic barrels and directional signage are in place to assist pedestrians needing access to existing bus stops on the west side of Floyd. All existing bus stops will be maintained during construction. Pedestrian paths may be temporarily relocated during short-duration closures as construction continues. When needed, contractors may escort pedestrians through the work zone.

Brookwood Drive Sidewalk Construction

Silver Comet Trail to Anderson Mill Road – Monday, Aug. 26, through Friday, Aug. 30
The contractor will continue installing water main, storm drainage, curb and gutter and utility relocations.

Al Bishop Drive Trail Construction

Callaway Road to County Services Parkway - Monday, Aug. 26, through Friday, Aug. 30
The contractor will continue final dressing and placing sod.

Powder Springs Bridge Replacement over Silver Comet Trail

Powder Springs Road remains closed from Richard D. Sailors Parkway to Austell Powder Springs Road until Aug. 30.

Asphalt paving operations, which include lane closures though one lane will remain open at all times, are **scheduled next week (Monday, Aug. 26 through Friday, Aug. 30) on the following roads: EXPECT DELAYS
