To mark the birth of a son to Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Museum lit its iconic Waterhouse building in blue for three nights last week.

Director of the Natural History Museum Dr Michael Dixon said, ‘Following the announcement earlier this year that The Duchess has chosen to be the Patron for the Natural History Museum, we were overjoyed to receive news of the Royal birth. I send The Duke and Duchess my best wishes and I am very much looking forward to welcoming another member of the Royal Family to the Museum.’

The Duchess of Cambridge announced her patronage of the Museum in April 2013.

Long-lost orchid found at Buckingham Palace

The beautiful helleborine orchid has not been seen in London for more than 100 years but, during a recent survey carried out by the Natural History Society, the rare orchid was rediscovered in Buckingham Palace gardens.

Museum botanist Dr Mark Spencer says, 'It is quite unusual to find the white helleborine north of the Thames, let alone in the middle of the city in The Queen’s back garden. It shows just how important green spaces in built-up areas are for giving wildlife a refuge.'
