October Events The cities of Amarillo and Canyon host stops on a tour celebrating the 75th anniversary of John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath and its tale of Dust Bowl-era farmers migrating west. Winnie hosts the 44th Annual Texas Rice Festival, featuring a rice-cooking contest, live music, and more. The Capitol building and surrounding grounds in Austin host the annual Texas Book Festival with more than 225 authors in attendance.
