Dear SBISD Parents, On behalf of our Board of Trustees and our 4500 employees, welcome back! We hope the 2013-14 school year is off to a great start for you and your family. Last week, our district enrollment surpassed 35,000 - the highest in decades! This marks the second year of our Spring Branch Plan and our district goal - Spring Branch T-2-4. This goal challenges us to double the number of our students who complete a technical certificate, military training, 2-year, or 4-year degree. To accomplish this goal, we are redoubling our efforts to assure that every student has a strong foundation in literacy and math and expanded opportunities to engage in school life. To accomplish T-2-4, every SBISD employee is committed to: - Building on the strengths and gifts of each child, - Assuring that students from poverty have the same opportunities for success after high school as students from non poverty homes - Assuring that students achieve more than they think possible - Successful completion of some form of higher education for every SBISD student. In addition to T-2-4, we are focused on successfully implementing House Bill 5, the important legislation passed by the Texas Legislature last spring which reduces the number of high stakes tests required for graduation and dramatically increases choice and opportunity for students through the new Foundation Plan for graduation. The Texas Education Agency continues to clarify and rule on House Bill 5. As more information becomes available, we will keep you informed via our website and direct communications from your campus leaders and counselors. The district begins the year with the State having restored $12 million of the $37 million in revenue that was lost during the last Biennium. We applaud our Board of Trustees for providing a 3% raise for all district employees. Our 2007 Bond Program continues with Frostwood Elementary set to open in January, Valley Oaks Elementary under construction, and the schematic design for Rummel Creek Elementary approved. All of us in SBISD are committed to the success of your children. We hope you will reach out to your child’s teacher and school leaders when you have celebrations, questions or concerns. Be engaged in your child’s education and school. We need, want and value your participation and partnership. Have a great year! Sincerely, Duncan F. Klussmann, Ed.D.
