Aug. 30, 2013 Cobb Seniors can use your help Meals on Wheels has a great opportunity for you to deliver meals to homebound seniors who are waiting for this needed service. Cobb Senior Services is in need of volunteer drivers in Smyrna, Austell, Mableton and Powder Springs. If you have some time to volunteer as a Meals On Wheels driver, or if you belong to an organization or business that would like to adopt a route, call Volunteer Services at (770) 528-5381. Cobb County is fortunate to have Meals on Wheels, a unique program, bringing homebound, frail seniors a hot meal on a daily basis. Each day, Senior Services prepares over 250 meals to be delivered to senior adults in Cobb County. Our volunteers make sure that not only is a hot, nutritious meal served, but also that each client is made to feel special with personal visits. Fall cleaning to be helped by shredding event Residents have the opportunity to have their household documents securely shredded and donate gently-worn shoes to help people in need. Keep Cobb Beautiful will host Document Shredding Day and Shoe Collection 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Sept. 14. The event will be held at: Piedmont Church Powder Springs City Hall Wolfe Adult Recreation Center Marietta Power This event is in partnership with Keep Marietta Beautiful, Keep Powder Springs Beautiful and Keep Smyrna Beautiful. Only paper products will be accepted. Plastics, CDs, floppy discs, electronics, cardboard and large binders with metal rings or clips will not be accepted. People are also asked to bind or tape shoes in pairs. For more information, call 770-528-1135. Participate in transportation planning from home Cobb County has launched the 2040 Comprehensive Transportation Plan Update. This update will assist the county and its cities in designing, planning and funding transportation investments through the year 2040. Public participation is a significant and important part of this process. Jazz festival to arrive at Mableton Amphitheatre The Sixth Annual Atlanta Smooth Music Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre. The festival features international, national and local smooth jazz recording artists. Smooth jazz fans will enjoy performances by guitarist Nick Colionne, keyboardist Alex Bugnon, saxophonists Eric Darius and Jeff Sparks, flutist Kim Scott and bassist Julian Vaughn.
