Usually in the dead of summer, it's a very slow news time on Capitol Hill in Nashville but this year is not the case. This week on INSIDE POLITICS we'll be joined by NewsChannel 5 Investigative reporters Phil Williams and Ben Hall as well as Tom Humphrey from the Knoxville News Sentinel and Andrea Zelenski from the Nashville City Paper.
When you think of a soldier, what words come to mind? Some of those words are patriotic, brave, strong, disciplined and loyal. Yes, they are all of those things and more. However, there is much more to a soldier than serving and defending his or her country. On this episode of THE PLUS SIDE OF NASHVILLE we'll be joined by Jon Nelson, a soldier and author that will tell you there is real emotion and humanity inside the hearts of each and every one of the soldiers. Be sure to watch! Then, it is a sad fact that no community escapes the pain of drug and alcohol abuse but a local organization is working really hard with families and members of the community to prevent substance abuse. We'll talk to the Nashville Prevention Partnership to learn more about this organization and their initiatives and innovation approach to countering drug and alcohol messages.
Did you know that African Americans are arrested on marijuana possession charges four times as much as whites here in Tennessee? According to a new study by the American Civil Liberties Union it is happening even after the fact that both races use the drug at roughly the same rate. On this episode of URBAN OUTLOOK we are joined by Davidson County Public Defender, Dawn Deaner, who will talk to us about the effects of these arrests and why it might be happening here in our state. What is Science of the Mind? Is it a religion? Is it a cult? Or is it just another way to view the world around us? This month on ISSUES OF FAITH, we'll discuss Science of the Mind with Dr. Mitch Johnson from the Center for Spiritual Living Nashville. Immigration reform has been a controversial topic for many years and now, we might see it happen.
