| July 5, 2013 Millage rate to be set at upcoming meeting At our July 23 commission meeting, I will propose a decrease in the county millage rate. The millage rate determines how much a property owner pays in annual property taxes. This millage decrease is the first step in a five year commitment to reduce property taxes. This reduction is possible because the local economy continues to improve and tight spending controls within the county budget. The meeting is scheduled to be held 7 p.m. at the Cobb County Board of Commissioners meeting room at 100 Cherokee Street, Marietta.  East Cobb park to celebrate anniversaryIt has been 10 years since a few east Cobb residents realized their vision for a beautiful green space located in the heart of east Cobb. Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the park 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., Saturday, July 13 as The Friends for East Cobb Park honor the founders of the park and East Cobb Civitan Club with food, refreshments, inflatable bounce houses, guest speakers, a DJ and entertainment. The event is open to all. East Cobb Park is located at 3322 Roswell Road, Marietta. Tornado debris pickup continues The Cobb County Department of Transportation reported July 3 that 102 trees have been cleared from the roadways during cleanup efforts from the recent tornado. Out of 1,687 work orders, the department has picked up debris from 499 locations. There are 1,188 locations remaining on the list for pickup. Call 770-528-5355 for more information. Right-of-Way Maintenance, week of June July 8-12 Shoulder Mowing Contractor Crew 1 currently mowing and trimming in District 4. Contractor Crew 2 will be in District 1. Parks & Recreation Crews are assisting DOT during debris removal they have mowed the Six Flags area and will move to the East/West Connector.
