Free 'Kritters and Kids' event to spotlight shelter Cobb County Animal Control will host their second “Kritters and Kids” Funfest 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, July 20. The indoor free event is part of the department’s continuing efforts to help find homes for the homeless animals of Cobb County. Last year, the event featured a variety of organizations speaking on safety, health, and responsible pet ownership. During this year’s expanded program, parents and children can meet ferret and reptile rescues, discover the importance of vet visits, learn if your dog could become a therapy animal and more. Attendees can also meet a trainer who will demonstrate agility exercises, find out why cats make great pets for some families and understand how some dogs become more than just a pet to diabetic patients. “We have so many wonderful animals here and they all deserve a home”, said Facility Operations Manager Billy Mayfield. “Through the events that the shelter has hosted, we are reaching out to the public in different ways. If someone has never been to our shelter, they should come check us out. We’re not your old-school ‘dog pound’ – our shelter is a bright, clean, friendly and hopeful place.” For more information about Cobb County Animal Control, please visit www.cobbanimalcontrol.org.
